For the last two summers, Corbin varsity coach Chris Hart and his staff revived the Corbin summer league.Last year it was in the fundamental stage, but this year he stepped up his program and added a group of softball all-stars.
The Little League team won two and lost two at South London two weeks ago. in the District 4 Tournament. Not looking to stop there, the team played in the 12-and-under Bluegrass State Games over the weekend.
Corbin brought home the second place silver medal by defeating five teams in the double elimination tournament. They lost in the championship game to Bluegrass Elite, 13-1."We just ran out of gas," said Hart.
"This is a group that played on the middle school team this year and played on the all-star team. They went up there (Lexington) and played really well," said Coach Chris Hart.
"They represented Corbin well.We gained a lot of fans up there," Hart said."We had people coming to us surprised that we played so well for such a small town team."
"We're not a traditional travel team," said Hart."I thought we did well.Just the fact that we went into a 17-team tournament and got to the championship game against a very good Bluegrass Elite team that is made up of players from nine different schools from around the Lexington area."
"People were impressed with us," said Hart.
