"The group will look at cosmetic things that need to be done and also some complex issues," said Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Thomas Harrison.

"There will be things like rehabilitating houses, cleaning up lots, tearing down houses and implementing a Neighborhood Watch to begin to tackle complex issues like drugs."

Harrison said the effort will tie in existing efforts of other groups like Habitat for Humanity, which can perhaps build more houses in the Bottom, and Greater Beulah Baptist Church which could bring in a literacy/GED program.

Harrison said the Quality of Life committee hopes the project grows to other neighborhoods and that other groups in town will target their own neighborhoods for restoration.

"We want to bring resources and leadership," Harrison said.

Thomas Harrison, Executive Director/ENVISION coordinator for the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce, said the new title was an honor and something they would certainly incorporate into the material they use to show the rest of the world Dothan's assets.

"The ENVISION work that is underway, this announcement will certainly be used as a foundation to say to our region and beyond that we are working very hard to improve the quality of life in our region," he said.

In May 2006, Dr. Thomas Harrison joined the Chamber as the executive director and also to serve as the coordinator for the ENVISION Strategic Plan . The next step was to take the four goals identified in the plan and establish coordinating task forces, and identify chairs to lead those forces: P-16+ Education Task Force Chair - Dr. Barbara Alford, In Sight Solutions, LLC GOAL: Develop a quality, seamless P-16+ education structure for the Dothan City School System, Wallace Community College, Enterprise-Ozark Community College and Troy University Dothan that reflects special attention to workforce development.
