But the Taxi Council's CEO, Howard Harrison, says drunken passengers, and not drivers' language skills, are the cause of violence.
"We do get some complaints about drivers' language, but I've got to say it's miniscule," he said.
"We get about one complaint about driver's language skills from every one million passenger journeys."
Mr Harrison says that while 80 per cent of drivers in the state have a non-English speaking background, they must pass a series of language tests.
He says new drivers also sit an anger management course.
"In a small area like a taxi cab where you may get about two to three people affected by alcohol, the atmosphere can be rather intensive," he said.
