    Alan Hardy has been teaching the flute for Melbourne University's Music Faculty since 1990, and more recently for the Victorian College of the Arts. He is also in great demand as a private teacher, examiner and adjudicator. Show Full Profile

    Alan was born in Ghana, West Africa, but grew up in England. He began studying the flute when he was 11. As an adult, he was awarded the Performer's Diploma in Flute from the Royal College of Music in London. He also had lessons with the distinguished English flautist William Bennett and played at Masterclasses given by Bennett, Trevor Wye and the late Geoffrey Gilbert at the International Summer School in Canterbury and Ramsgate, U.K.

    Alan took his degree in Classics at the University of Hull, and also obtained a Certificate of Education at Cambridge University. He moved to Australia in 1979. From 1981 until 1992 Alan taught Latin, French and English at Melbourne Grammar School. While at Melbourne Grammar, Alan met the pianist Lyn Dernelley and the 'cellist Anna Daniel with whom he formed the Alinana Trio which performed regularly in Melbourne and throughout Victoria in the 1980's. From 1987 until 1996 Alan and Lyn Dernelley also provided music for Sunday Afternoon Tea at the Windsor Hotel in Melbourne covering a repertoire ranging from Baroque to Broadway.

    Alan and wife Helen are becoming well known as a Flute Duo, giving recitals in Australia and England.
