Rumors of confirmed swine-flu cases somewhere in the Conewago Valley School District seem to be making their way around the community, but assistant superintendent Rebecca Harbaugh said Wednesday that the district knows of no confirmed cases.
The district so far this school year has seen a number of students come down with flu-like illnesses, Harbaugh said.
The district even sent a letter home with New Oxford Middle School students, advising parents that a student there had come down with an unseasonal flu-like illness that had not been confirmed as the H1N1 virus, better known as swine flu.
The letter asked that parents be vigilant in monitoring their children's health, and provided hygiene tips that can help curb the spread of infections.
Harbaugh on Wednesday said the district had not been informed that any students at any of its schools had tested positive for swine flu.
She said she could not positively deny there were confirmed cases in the district, and said she wasn't sure the district would be notified if positive test was returned through a student's family doctor.
In most years, she said, flu-like illnesses like the ones the district has seen don't crop up until later in the year, after the onset of flu season.
