"One school might have been focusing on kindergarten to grade 3 students, and another school grades 2 through 6," Hancock said.
In addition to such core subjects as English, science and global (social) studies, schools are free to use art, music and physical education to help students learn.
For example, said Hancock, some schools are teaching math by studying the game of golf, some students are learning science through cooking lessons, and some students are gaining literacy skills through groups coordinated by school libraries.
