    MAURICE HANCOCK, BROCKTON

    IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT - 2007

    An eleven year member of the Brockton School Committee, Maurice Hancock has been actively involved in education issues in Massachusetts for many years, most recently when he and his family took up the next stage of the state's education equity lawsuit in Hancock v. Driscoll (previouslyknown as the McDuffy case).On the Brockton committee, Mr. Hancock has twice served as vice chair, and has chaired subcommittees on Superintendent Selection; Facilities Management and Usage; and Bid Review.He has also been a member of subcommittees on Transportation and Safety; Non-certified Negotiations; Curriculum; Policy; and Finance and served as chair of the School Building committee which oversaw the construction of three elementary schools.

    In addition, Mr. Hancock is the school committee's liaison to the Horace Mann Champion Charter School in Brockton.In this capacity, he has participated on several state-wide panels promoting the Horace Mann public school concept and illustrating the advantages in light of its success in Brockton.

    For the past three years, Mr. Hancock has served on the MASC Board of Directors as president-elect (2005) vice president (2004) and secretary-treasurer (2003), having previously served as chair, vice-chair and secretary-treasurer of Division III.On the Board, he has chaired the Resolutions; Budget and Finance; and Personnel committees.Other MASC activities include participation on the 2001 Nominating committee; Technology committee; as Sergeant at Arms at the NSBA 2002 Convention and Delegate (2005) and as a member of the Federal Relations Network.Mr. Hancock is also a member and active participant of Governor Romney's Local Government Advisory Commission which meets monthly in the governor's chambers.He also represents the Association on the MIAA Governing Council, which has deliberated a number of critical sports-rules changes during the past year.

    A member of the Brockton Fire Department, Mr. Hancock is a former long-time member of the Board of Directors for Borderland State Park and served nine years as chair of the Brockton Conservation Commission.He is also a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Council and a lector at the Church.He is also on the Board of Directors of Brockton Area Multi Services, Inc. (BAMSI), a regional social services advocacy organization.

    He and his wife, Deborah, have three children: Jarred, Courtney and Julie, all of whom were educated in the Brockton Public Schools.
