Former Loughborough University student Matthew Hancock, who graduated this year with a First Class Honours MEng degree in Aeronautical Engineering, has been awarded the Best Mechanical Engineering Student Award at this year's Science, Engineering and Technology Student of the Year Awards (SET) in London.

23 year old Matthew, who originates from Worksop, was nominated for the awards by his supervisor Professor Tim Gordon, on account of his final year project, 'The use of electronically controlled differentials in road vehicles'.

Matthew devised his project in conjunction with Jaguar Cars, where he spent an exemplary year in industry as part of his programme, and for whom he now works.

As his prize, Matthew received a trophy and cheque, while Loughborough University was presented with a framed certificate and cheques worth £2,000.
Matthew is the second Loughborough University graduate in two years to have won the Best Mechanical Engineering Student Award.
