ARTISTIC Director of the Lieder Theatre, Chrisjohn Hancock and Lieder Board member, Fiona Churchill, joined Southern Tablelands Regional Arts development Officer, Elizabeth Brown, at a national arts conference in Horsham on the weekend.
    ...
"It draws together arts practitioners from all over Australia to debate and share current issues related to working in regional and rural areas as artists, musicians, writers, cultural planner, facilitators and advocates for arts practice," Mr Hancock said.

This year's conference was called 'Meeting Place' and it coincided with the Awakenings Festival, an exciting celebration of ability held every October in Horsham.

"There were performances, exhibitions, discussion, debates, salons and conversations as well as the chance to explore the Horsham area during the three-day event from October 21 to 24," Mr Hancock said.

"The delegates travelling from the Goulburn region met with some of Australia's most provocative commentators, artists and thinkers and experienced newly commissioned artworks, created especially for Meeting Place.

"It was an inspiring and rejuvenating time and a wonderful opportunity to meet new people and share experiences from our community and look at new options for developing our work into the future."

Mr Hancock took time off from rehearsals of the Lieder's next production of ,Babes in the Wood', due to open mid November at the Lieder Theatre, to attend the conference.

Meeting Place was hosted by Regional Arts Australia and the Horsham Regional Arts Association.
