Chris will review the development of the Knowledge Network whilst focussing on the issues and opportunities, potential and problems that this system presents.

The InterDepartmental Group on Information Matters (IDGIM) is a forum where senior government personnel are invited to discuss ideas and concerns relating to information and knowledge management issues. We are delighted to collaborate with them in the arrangement of this exciting meeting.

Chris HancockChris graduated in Applied Biology but thereafter, the bugs appear to have been of the software variety. He began his career as a clerical officer in the Department of Social Services in 1982 but swiftly joined the computing fraternity and after a succession of roles with increasing responsibility, was appointed the Implementation Manager for Lotus Notes within the Department of Health.
    ...
Joe had a vision of being able to draw together material required by the Press Office, ministerial Private Office and special advisors and within a matter of days, Chris was able to demonstrate a working system.
    ...
In 1999, Chris was asked to transfer to the Cabinet Office to deploy something of a similar nature across Government. So was born the Knowledge Network, an outstanding success that received the award for the best IT Project 2002 from the Management Consultancy Association.Joe and Chris were also named Innovators of the Year by Government Computing in recognition of their vision, determination and skills.
    ...
Now a key part of the e-Envoy's Office, Chris has a team that has developed and deployed infrastructure and 50+ business applications, which run across multiple Whitehall Departments.

This biography, of necessity, has to be short but would not be complete without at least some reference to Chris's other wide and varied interests.Married with five children, Chris is a Methodist Lay Preacher, an enthusiastic supporter of Manchester City and the Toronto Maple Leafs (ice hockey), an active photographer and enjoys listening to rock music. He says that his state of happiness can be gauged from the length of his hair - but fails to add whether the length is proportionate or inversely proportionate!
