In 1998, Dr. George Hanbury became the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Nova Southeastern University (NSU).
NSU, located in the Fort Lauderdale area, is the largest independent institution of higher learning in the State of Florida and the eight largest in the nation with an enrollment of more than 27,000 students.
In addition to his duties as EVP/COO, Dr. Hanbury is also an Associate Professor for the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship at NSU.
Prior to his appointment as Executive Vice President, Dr. Hanbury had a career in municipal administration totaling more than thirty years, and was the Chief Executive Officer (city manager), to the following cities: Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Portsmouth, Virginia, and Virginia Beach, Virginia.
In addition, he was an Assistant City Manager in the cities of Norfolk, and Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Dr. Hanbury holds a Ph.D. degree in Public Administration from Florida Atlantic University, a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Old Dominion University in Virginia, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a major in Public Administration from Virginia Tech.
He has been certified through the Senior Executive Institute at the University of Virginia and was inducted into Pi Alpha Alpha, the national honor society for the field of public affairs and public administration.
