Gainesville Mayor Bob Hamrick said he would have no problem supporting a $16,000 repair bill to fix the elevator in the city/county administration building.

That's because Hamrick got stuck on it for ten minutes when the doors failed to open while he was on his way to a council work session.

'It's an uneasy feeling and I can assure you that will be a top priority,' Hamrick said.

Hamrick added the elevator was recently repaired, but not the door opening mechanism.

GAINESVILLE - Gainesville City Councilman Bob Hamrick says its time to replace some of the state and U.S. flags at city buildings, and as it turned out, some Gainesville firefighters were unknowingly taking his advice.

Hamrick wants the faded banners hauled down and replaced, passing along the request at Tuesday's city council meeting.

"Some of them are looking worn, and I just made the comment that we needed to get new ones up and flying," Hamrick said Thursday.

By coincidence, (or maybe it was ESP?)the firefighters at Station #2 on Dixon Drive picked that very day to haul down their old flags and raise new ones without knowing Hamrick was calling for it.

Hamrick said the city often gets flags donated by State Representative Carl Rogers and various Gainesville civic groups.
