Mr. Hampson, a member of the Business Transactions Practice Group at Harris Beach & Wilcox, has served as general counsel to a nationwide marketing cooperative of growers and to its wholly-owned subsidiary, a large food processing and distribution company.As general counsel, he has been involved in general business operations, mergers and acquisitions, real estate transactions, environmental issues, contract negotiations, antitrust, and securities matters.He has also been involved in the establishment and operation of other agricultural cooperatives.Mr. Hampson also provides legal counsel on general corporate matters to a variety of businesses.
PROFESSIONAL AND COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES :
Mr. Hampson is a member of the American, New York State and Monroe County Bar Associations.He served as chairman of the Committee on Legal Education and Admission to the New York State Bar Association from 1978 to 1981.He has also been active in the American Civil Liberties Union at the national and state level and helped found the Genesee Valley Chapter in 1963.In 1986, the local ACLU chapter awarded Mr. Hampson its Bill of Rights Award.
Mr. Hampson is a member of the Rochester Civil Service Commission.One of only five members on the commission, Mr. Hampson helps oversee personnel matters for the police and fire departments as well as for all other city employees.In addition, he served as the chairman of the Monroe County Fair Campaign Practices Committee for 12 years.
Mr. Hampson is an active member of the Philosopher's Club of Rochester, which he has served as president and secretary.He was a trustee of the public library system of Rochester and Monroe County for over twenty years.As a devoted ornithologist, Mr. Hampson has served as a director of the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology and the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Association.He also hosts a radio show, Mostly Jazz, every Saturday and Sunday evening on Rochester's public radio station, WXXI.
