Marie A. Hammond, age 88, formerly of Surgoinsville, passed away Saturday morning, February 7, 2004, at Asbury Acres Health Center of Maryville.

She was born in Hawkins County where she lived her entire life.She attended East Tennessee State University.She served 35 combined years as an elementary school teacher and principal with Hawkins County Board of Education and a social worker with the Tennessee Department of Human Services.She was an active member of Surgoinsville First United Methodist Church for approximately 60 years.

Mrs. Hammond was preceded in death by parents, R. Clint and Cora Armstrong, sister, Willie Armstrong and brother, Murrell Armstrong.
