The case, Hamilton v. Accu-Tek, was initiated with a lawsuit filed in 1995 by Ms. Freddie Hamilton after her son was slain in a 1993 shooting incident.Prior to filing the action, Ms. Hamilton, who is executive director of a Brooklyn social services company, helped launch a lobbying group called PURGE (Parents United to Rally for Gun Elimination). The lawsuit essentially sought to hold firearms manufacturers accountable for the criminal or negligent use of guns.It made as much sense as blaming automobile and liquor companies for the accidents caused by those who drink and drive.
