  260073 Top of the class Freddie Hamilton of the Niagara IceDogs was awarded the Ivan Tennant Memorial Award as the top academic high school player in the Ontario Hockey League. Hamilton, 17, received the award at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto on June 3. Hamilton scored 10 goals and added 28 points in 65 regular season games as a rookie.

  The Niagara IceDogs Hockey Club announced today that they have signed Freddie Hamilton, the team’s First Round Draft Pick in the 2008 OHL Priority Selection.
  
  The 6-0, 175 lbs forward was selected with the 14th overall pick. Last season, as captain of the Toronto Marlboros, Hamilton racked up 59 goals and 62 assists for 121 points in 74 games, with only eight penalty minutes.
  
  IceDogs General Manager Dave Brown was extremely excited about the signing describing Hamilton as “a complete player who works extremely hard in both ends.â€

  Hamilton got his first experience with the IceDogs in early June, as he took to the ice for the IceDogs Annual Rookie Camp. Next, Hamilton will take part in the IceDogs main training camp which opens August 26th.

  Central Division - The OHL Academic Player of the Month for October in the Central Division is center Freddie Hamilton of the Niagara Ice Dogs Hockey Club. Hamilton, 16, a native of Toronto, Ontario is a Grade 11 student at Governor Simcoe Secondary School in St. Catharines.

  Hamilton is a Grade 11 student attending Governor Simcoe Secondary School in St. Catharines while playing for the IceDogs. Maintaining a full course load, Hamilton has a 2008-09 academic average of 99%. His grades have made him the top Grade 11 student at both his High School and throughout the entire District School Board of Niagara. He is described by IceDogs' Academic Advisor Tim Tope as "a very excellent and driven student with incredible enthusiasm and leads other student athletes by showing them that it is possible to achieve excellence in every area of one's life."
  
  Hamilton, a 17-year-old rookie forward from Toronto, ON, was selected by the IceDogs in the first round, 14th overall at the 2008 OHL Priority Selection. He completed his rookie season scoring 10 goals and 18 assists for 28 points in 65 games. He also won gold for Team Ontario at the 2009 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
