Fred Hamilton, publisher and CEO of the San Gabriel Valley Newspaper Group, has been named chief executive officer of the Los Angeles Newspaper Group.
Hamilton replaces Ed Moss, who resigned to become publisher of the San Diego Union-Tribune.
...
In his new role, Hamilton will retain direct oversight of LANG's inland division, which includes The Sun, Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, Redlands Daily Facts, San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Pasadena Star-News and Whittier Daily News.
As CEO of LANG, he will also oversee the Los Angeles Daily News, the Daily Breeze in Torrance and the Long Beach Press-Telegram.
"We are fortunate that Fred Hamilton is ideally suited and prepared for the top position in LANG," said Steve Rossi, president and CEO of the California Newspapers Partnership, of which LANG is a part.
...
Hamilton, 58, brings more than 25 years of experience in the newspaper industry to this position, having served as publisher of several newspapers in the western United States prior to joining LANG.
Despite the economic challenges facing the newspaper industry, Hamilton expressed confidence that once the economy stabilizes, "we'll come out strong on the other end."
"There's a high level of commitment from Dean Singleton (MediaNews Group's CEO and vice chairman) on down," Hamilton said.
