Bernie Hamilton, 62, of Riverside, said the growth in household income levels is representative of the town's desirability.Greenwich, said the 13-year resident, offers excellent public schools, wonderful recreational facilities, good churches and a short commute to New York City.
"It's a very pleasant place to live," said Hamilton, who retired from American Express in 1998.
In addition, the boom of the 1990s lifted people at all income levels. There was a 16 percent drop in the portion of Greenwich residents who had incomes of $75,000 or less, and an identical increase in the portion who had incomes of $100,000 or more. The portion with incomes of $75,000 to $100,000 remained fixed at 11 percent.
A number of town residents said they were not surprised by the spectacular increase in household income in town.
