Bernard Hamilton Jr., formerly the superintendent of the West Point, Miss., public schools, has become the associate commissioner of the office of supportive learning environments in the Kentucky Department of Education.He will oversee preschool and primary education and extended-services programs, as well as minority recruitment and retention.Mr. Hamilton, 50, also is a board member for the National Alliance of Black School Educators.

Bernard Hamilton Jr. has assumed the position of associate commissioner of the office of supportive learning environments in the Kentucky Department of Education.Previously he served as superintendent of the West Point, Miss., School District.Hamilton also worked as a principal in the Clark County School District in Las Vegas, Nev.
