Abdul Halim, currently a lecturer in the Law and Public Management Faculty, joined UUM in February 1986 as a tutor.

Among the posts he had held in the university were as the dean of the Social Development School and as a member of the panel which assesses lecturers to confirm their appointments.

Meanwhile, UUM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Ahmad Fawzi Mohd Basri has been promoted to the rank of brigadier-general in the Territorial Army.

He is the first public university vice-chancellor to hold the rank.

Prof Abdul Halim, 43, who went to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and the University Of Wales, has won several awards including the UKM Book Prize and one from the Kedah Graduates Association and was previously dean of the UUM School of Social Development.
