  • Omar Ha-Redeye
    
    Omar Ha-Redeye is a recent graduate (Juris Doctor) of the law program at the University of Western Ontario.  He will be articling with a top-ranked litigation boutique in Toronto for 2010-2011 (Student-at-Law, not a lawyer).
    
    Legal Education
    Omar Ha-Redeye has won or placed in more than half of UWO Law's oral advocacy competitions, making the finals in all of the school?s upper-year appellate moots.  He has received numerous awards for advocacy, including the Patricia DeGuire Cup for Best Oralist in the Koskie Minsky LLP Diversity Moot, the Justice C.D. Stewart Trophy for best team in the Lerners LLP Cup, and winner of the Borden Ladner Gervais LLP Client Counselling Competition.
    
    During his time in law school he published with Oxford University Press (ISBN 9780195560558), CRC Press (Taylor & Francis Group) (ISBN 9781439821299), and the Windsor Review of Legal and Social Issues (Vol. 1, No. 1, April 2010). He also spoke at a number of professional venues while studying law, including at the United Nations, to a diplomatic delegation, as well as several academic conferences and post-secondary institutions.
    
    Omar is one of the few law students in Canada to participate in multiple law exchange programs with other universities internationally, including partnerships with the University of Toronto, Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Whittier Law School, Bar-Ilan University, Baylor University, and Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara. He received the international CALI Excellence for the Future Awards in academic achievement for the highest performance in law courses on the holocaust and genocide, and another in religious legal systems.
    
    He was actively involved in his law school community, holding the role of President of the Black Law Students Association (BLSA), the Health Law Club, and the Mature Students Club. He was the Magister of Rand Inn, UWO?s chapter of Phi Delta Phi (PDP), an international legal fraternity.  He founded the Western Law Review Association, a group dedicated to establishing a student-run law review at UWO, and the largest law school blog and podcast in Canada at Law is Cool.
    
    Omar currently contributes to Slaw and is frequently contacted by the media.
    
    Life Before Law
    Prior to law school, Omar began his clinical career in Nuclear Medicine in the U.S., and then completed additional degrees in health administration, where he graduated at the top of his class, and in corporate communications & public relations. While working at a veteran institution in the U.S., he began his research into radiological hazards. He continued working in the field of nuclear medicine for a major health care system, before taking on various administrative roles in the areas of emergency management and communications for a provincial cabinet member.
    
    Omar has Hazardous Materials (HazMat) respondent and First Responder experience, as well as field experience in South-East Asia after the 2004 tsunami. In the past he has consulted for business, NGOs, and governmental entities on subjects such as ethics, media issues, disaster management and crisis communications.
