Local insurance agent Steve Gutting said he welcomes Cavanaugh's appointment.Gutting started his career at Erie Insurance in 1974 as an underwriter and later an assistant manager under then-CEO H.O. Hirt.Gutting bought his first insurance business in 1978, and now is a principal with the Historic Square Agency, 3731 W. 26th St., which sells Erie Insurance policies.

"From an independent agent standpoint, someone coming from a company like Chubb, which has an extremely good reputation, is a good thing," Gutting said.
