"Often the results aren't tangible," says Rodolfo Guttilla, director of corporate affairs for São Paulo cosmetics company Natura, considered one of the pioneers of corporate social programs in Brazil through its emphasis on organic products and sustainable development projects with farmers and small communities.

"The concept of corporate social responsibility widened [in Brazil] when there was an understanding that it generates impacts throughout the company's entire chain of productivity," says Rodolfo Guttilla, director of corporate affairs at Natura.
