Barbara Gutmann was born on 16 January 1958 in Wuppertal, Germany, and grew up in Wolfsburg from 1968.Following her degree in Educational Studies at Technical University Braunschweig she started her career at Volkswagen AG in Wolfsburg in 1982.For five years she had various roles in Sales and Marketing, followed by five years as Management Trainer at the Group Headquarters.In 1992 Barbara Gutmann was appointed Head of Adult Education at SkodaAuto, based in Mladá Boleslav in the Czech Republic, and held this position for four years.During this time she was a visiting lecturer for HR Management at the Technical University in Liberec and a member of the International Supervisory Board of the Czech Management Center Celakovice.Following this foreign assignment she spent five years in Wolfsburg, initially as Head of the Volkswagen Group Junior Executive Program at Volkswagen Coaching GmbH and later in Human Resources Top Management at Volkswagen AG with responsibility for International Talent Planning and Development.From April 2001 to February 2004 Barbara Gutmann worked for SEAT S.A. in Spain where she was Head of Human Resources Top Management and Executive Personnel.Since her return to Germany in March 2004 she has now been heading the Group Executive Development Department at Volkswagen Coaching GmbH in Wolfsburg.
