Abe Gutman is a consulting engineer for DBI.He has over 30 years experience in civil, structural, and forensic engineering.Mr. Gutman's experience includes the design and construction of hundreds of millions of dollars of projects ranging from parking structures and commercial developments to airports and infrastructure projects.During his professional career, Mr. Gutman has been retained by numerous owners, attorneys, and insurance companies as a recognized expert on foundation issues and distressed structures.Furthermore, Mr. Gutman has project experience from a wide variety of backgrounds including commercial, industrial, residential, institutional, and governmental sectors.
Mr. Gutman's most recent experience includes being retained as a structural and foundations expert for claims stemming from insurance related issues.He has consulted on numerous builder's risk and construction defect claims by providing a strong technical knowledge of the engineering, scheduling, and construction issues.Mr. Gutman has also recommended numerous repair methodologies for projects ranging from parking garages, residential high-rise condominiums, commercial high-rise buildings, warehouses, subway stations, to air cargo facilities.Prior to recommending any specific repair program, Mr. Gutman will identify the causes of origin that contributed to the present condition of the defective structure.Mr. Gutman inspects the facility, researches the construction documents and as-built plans, and issues a repair methodology to rehabilitate the facility to its intended use.Mr. Gutman has also monitored the repairs to ensure compliance with all the current and local building standards.When issuing such recommendations, Mr. Gutman considers the least intrusive means to the implement the repair program with minimal impact to the facility's daily operations.As an internationally recognized expert in the area of concrete foundations and structures, Mr. Gutman has applied his expertise in the insurance arena and has realized tremendous savings to many Insurers.
In addition to providing consulting services to Insurers, Mr. Gutman has also been involved with construction projects from their conceptual stages.For example, Mr. Gutman designed over 2,500 LF of slurry walls and cut-off walls for the World Financial Center in New York City.He also was the lead foundations engineer for an extensive underpinning project at the existing Carlton Hotel in New York City.In addition, Mr. Gutman was actively involved in structural integrity inspections and analyses of The World Trade Center Sub-grade Levels, including PATH Tunnels and Station, Concourse, Plaza and River Pump Station for The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey following the 9/11 incident.
Mr. Gutman is an internationally recognized expert in structural and civil engineering issues.He has written numerous peer reviewed papers and articles in various industry publications.Mr. Gutman continues to be an active member of several industry organizations including the American Society of Civil Engineers (Fellow), American Institute of Steel Construction, The American Welding Society and the American Concrete Institute.He has also been the recipient of numerous awards and has held teaching engagements at Pratt Institute, New York Institute of Technology, and the U.S. Military Academy.
