"There is significant damage to the building, but then there were some areas of the building that were completely unharmed," Shannan Guthrie, public information director for IU 13, said this morning.
The leak occurred in the rear of the attic, where an 8-inch riser main connected to a 3-inch pipe.Guthrie said the rear of building sustained the most damage, and firefighters told her a lot of the water went down an elevator shaft in the center of the building.
"The elevator shaft had a significant amount of water in it, but that's what saved the front of the building," she said.

Work crews arrived at the building around 8 p.m. Saturday and have been working non-stop since then, Guthrie said.
"It was amazing the transformation just from Saturday night to Sunday morning how much they've been able to clean," she said."They've really done an amazing job."

Insurance representatives will inspect the building today and give their estimate, Guthrie said. She said this morning she did not know if the damage will be covered by insurance.
Meanwhile, all classes have been canceled this week as IU 13 searches for alternative locations.
Guthrie said several school districts have offered use of rooms, and she is hopeful classes will resume next week.
"If we are able to get any programs up and running prior to that, we will be in contact with the parents," she said.
