Gerd Axel Gutermuth is counsel at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr and a member of the firm's Antitrust and Competition Department.Based in the firm's Brussels office, Mr. Gutermuth's practice focuses on a broad range of European and German competition law issues.

Practice

Since joining the firm in 1999, Mr. Gutermuth has assisted clients in several first and second phase merger proceedings before the European Commission and national competition authorities.He has worked on several second phase EC and German merger cases.

Mr. Gutermuth also has a general antitrust counseling practice and regularly advises clients on the compliance of joint ventures and other cooperation agreements with Articles 81 and 82 of the EC Treaty and the specific rules on distribution, research and development, technology transfer, and production. Moreover, Mr. Gutermuth represents clients in cartel investigations, EC anti-subsidy and anti-dumping procedures, State aid procedures, and appeals to the European Court of First Instance.

Mr. Gutermuth has worked for clients in various industries, including chemical, life science, metals, defense and telecommunications/media.
