On Saturday, Judge Robert E. Guterl, assignment judge for Hunterdon, Somerset and Warren counties, traveled to Crombie's studio to view the mural.
"It looks beautiful," the judge said Wednesday."It's hard to imagine what it's going to do to that room."
Guterl said he was surprised that instead of beginning with a detailed sketch and painting accordingly, the figures on the mural have gradually emerged.
"Even things like weapons and swords are added last, in the same way that someone would strap them on," Guterl said."George Washington was almost done, except he didn't have his sword."
...
Guterl said the mural will not be dedicated until the spring, when the Halpern family returns from Florida.
But the mural will be installed by the end of next week, Crombie said, a three-person job that will take the better part of a day.
When placed on the wall with a clay-based glue, the mural should look as if it were painted directly onto the wall.
"It's much like putting up wallpaper, and as anyone who's put up wallpaper before knows, first of all, it's getting it straight and centering it perfectly," she said."Hopefully my measurements are accurate."
