The move was necessary because FEMA took up residence in John Slidell Park, said Kelli Gustafson, director of the Slidell Department of Cultural and Public Affairs.

Though Heritage Park is the traditional setting for Bayou Jam concerts, the city had moved it to John Slidell Park due to concerns that the inch-thick layer of dried mud that still covers most of Heritage Park could be liquefied if the city receives rains.

The city is trying to arrange to have vendors on hand to sell food and refreshments for Sunday's concert and is attempting to contact other bands previously scheduled to present concerts during the 2005 fall Bayou Jam concert series."We're going to try to get them all," Gustafson said.

Kelli Gustafson, Director of the Department of Cultural & Public Affairs for the City of Slidell, informs me this will be the last year that the Lockheed Martin retirees will be setting up the trains and ceramic villages in the recreation hall for Christmas Under the Stars.

They've been doing so for several years but are unable to continue. Therefore, another organization or group of volunteers is being sought to take over.

The train display is one of the most popular attractions at the annual event and it would certainly be a shame if it had to be discontinued.

If you know of anyone who would be interested in taking this wonderful project on, please contact Kelli or Mary Anne Carollo at 646-4375.
