Dan Gurley MDDan is a Kansas City native with deep roots in the sporting world.His father, Jim, was a star athlete in the 1950's.He went on to coach at Southeast High School in Kansas City, MO.Jim left full time teaching but continued to excel in sports through his kids' little league teams.Both Dan, and later his brother Greg, were standout basketball players at Shawnee Mission South.Dan led his team to the Kansas state tournament where his team placed 3rd and he was awarded All-State honors.Dan went on to pursue athletics as a profession by pursuing a career in Sports Medicine.He completed his collegiate, pre-med work at Texas Christian University.He went on to receive his medical degree at the University of Kansas.Dr. Gurley followed his dream to becoming a sports medicine physician and orthopaedic surgeon by completing a 5 year residency training program in Orthopaedic Surgery at the KU Medical Campus at Wichita.His sub-specialty training in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopic Surgery was completed at the Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Jackson, MS.
Dr. Gurley currently is the team physician for the UMKC Kangaroos and the Blue Valley Tigers.His clinical practice at College Park Family Care Center focuses on the care and treatment of sports medicine injuries and minimally invasive, arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, elbow, and knee.
Dr. Gurley is married to his college sweetheart, Susie.They have 3 children: Jeff, Olivia, and Will.The Gurley kids are active in all sports and Dan coaches them in their activities especially basketball.Dr. Gurley still finds time for basketball, running, golf, and water/snow skiing.
