    As an undergraduate student at California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA), Sandra Guerrero established that she was an exceptional student, in and out of class.As she worked toward earning a B.S. degree in electrical engineering, Sandra also honed her leadership skills in organizations like the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), IEEE, and the Society of Women Engineers (SWE).During her term as president of SWE, membership increased and services like professional development workshops were initiated.The university recognized Sandra's spectacular leadership by presenting her with the Outstanding Student Organization President Award.

    Today, the young engineer is employed by the Southern California Edison (SCE) in Los Angeles, where she continues to grow into an exceptionally well-rounded leader who sets high goals for herself, for her profession, and for her community.Now also a graduate student working toward a master's degree in electrical power systems, Sandra still makes time to lead.She co-founded a SWE Mentoring Program at CSULA to build stronger networks between students and alums.She has participated in a Latina History Day Conference, the Sally Ride Science Festival and a Latina Leadership Program for at-risk 7th and 8th grade girls at a nearby middle school.At work, Sandra was one of only seven engineers selected to participate in a 16 month Engineering, Planning, and Project Management Job Rotation program.She was also a member of a winning team for the Circuit of the Future design competition held internally at SCE.

    As the first woman in her family to attend college, Sandra proudly credits her success to the determination and hard work modeled by a long line of resilient women in her family, including a grandmother who single handedly reared ten children, and her aunt and her mother, who immigrated to this country to support the family."Their struggles and tenacity inspired me to seek a higher education to develop a better future for myself ...

    In 2006, Sandra Guerrero was awarded a HENAAC/Lockheed Martin Scholarship.She expects to complete her master's program by December 2007.
