Steve Groves, owner of Groves Cottages on York Beach, also said his business has been going well this year, despite the less-than-pleasant weather in the earlier part of the season.

"We're not affected by the weather," Groves said.

Most of his cottages are booked in the winter by vacationers who make staying in York an annual tradition.

Groves said this will affect only a few seasonal homeowners.

"From what I understand, it's only for people who own one or two cottages and haven't paid taxes in the past," Groves said.

He added he has been paying sales tax on his cottages for years.

Groves said homeowners will likely add the tax to the cost of the rental and pass the increase on to the consumer.

"I don't think it will really affect people who rent," Groves said.
