C.A. Johnson principal Kathie Greer said Thursday about 20 officers patrolled inside and outside the school Wednesday, and about 10 on Thursday.Normally the school has one officer on site.
She anticipated only a few extra officers would be at the school today.
"I think the first few days after something happens are the most critical times in being a little more vigilant in keeping your ear to the ground," Greer said Thursday."That kind of trails off after that first emotional flood."
She said Thursday "was a very quiet, very orderly day," but Wednesday was a little different scenario as many students learned of the shooting for the first time.
"You could tell there was unrest and people were tense," Greer said. She sent six disruptive students home, calling their parents to come in for a school conference before they were dismissed.
Parents and some alumni were notified by e-mail and the school's automated announcement system that additional officers would be on site.Greer said students seemed appreciative of the police support.

Greer said the school works closely with police to make sure administrators are aware of problems in the community, but makes it clear to students they cannot bring their fights into the school.
"We know we cannot control that piece ... but they know they cannot bring that conflict here," she said.
