"Carl was such a nice person; we became the best of friends," Hampton said.

Greenlaw's ability to relate to others and make friends was evident at his 308 Windward Pointe home Monday night, where about 30 people gathered to mourn his death.

Greenlaw, 31, who owned Goldee's Bail Bonding in Durham, was discovered in his 2000 Jaguar at the bottom of a ravine less than a mile from his home at 2:53 a.m. Friday.He had been shot in the head.

Police reviewed the murder during a Monday morning briefing that revealed no new information, spokesman Lt.N.J.Blake said.

Greenlaw, the youngest sibling, was born and raised in Gary and moved to the Triangle to attend college around 1990, they said.

Greenlaw had planned to leave for Indiana Friday night to attend Robinson's birthday party, she said.

During his college days at St. Augustine's and N.C. Central University, his fraternity brothers joked with him about being light-skinned.

The nickname they gave him, "Goldee," stuck and became the name of his business in 1997 after he had been working for about two years for another bail bondsman, friends said.

Greenlaw had friends all over the country and knew several celebrities, his family said.

Tiara Walker, his girlfriend, said Greenlaw had been at a Raleigh restaurant and was on his way home when he was killed.

Police said a dark-colored Mustang was seen leaving the scene around the time of his death.

A Durham magistrate, defense attorney and others spoke highly of Greenlaw's nature and vowed to discover who killed him.
