   Thomas Christopher Greene has already won acclaim for his book, "Mirror Lake," which captures the mystique of Vermont, telling the story of the unlikely friendship between a Vermonter and a newly arrived Boston transplant.
   
   There's mystery and romance, and a poignant secret that captures the reader's imagination. Greene, a graduate of Hobart College and Vermont College, where he earned a master's degree in creative writing, once worked for Michael Dukakis' presidential campaign and as a spokesman for Norwich University. A native of Worcester, Mass., he says that it was a writing group in Montpelier that got him started on "Mirror Lake."

   According to Norwich spokesman Thomas Greene, the Indonesian students in the two-year-old cooperative program were chosen and paid for by the Indonesian Embassy in Washington with funds wired "by order of the military attache."
