Construction on the pedestrian ramp being built over Highway 280 has paused its construction due to waiting for Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) not moving power lines that would get in the way of machinery, as said by City of Cupertino architect Terry Greene.
...
Greene said that the city is working with PG&E and they are not finished removing high voltage power lines in order for the bridge to actually be built, the delay being a precaution.
...
Greene said that the pause in construction is part of "Phase 1" until "Phase 2" begins, which is when construction will be noticeable.Greene explained that "Phase 1" consists of four processes: preparation of rough grading dirt to aid in the bridge's construction, construction of an 8-foot wooden secuirty fence, construction of a 7-foot wooden privacy fence, and the removal of high tension power lines out of the way so that the bridge may be built.
Phase 2 is finishing everything else that needed to be constructed, which includes towers, decks, landscaping, pathways, and connecting Homestead Rd. to Mary Ave. pavement.
Total costs for the project amount to $10 million, with $7 million going toward construction costs alone. This pause in construction has only raised the cost extent slightly, estimated to be 4 to 5 percent. From a distance it may seem like nothing has happened to the ramp, but Greene said that minor construction is still being done, even though it isn't as noticeable when it first began.
