Happy hour started at 4 p.m. on Fridays, with cheap beer on tap in the cafeteria, said Ted Greene, Hybritech's early president.

"Our TGIF was legendary," Greene said, pausing to exclaim about the number of white and bald heads coming through the door at the 30th Hybritech reunion yesterday in Carmel Valley.About 350 former employees came from as far as France.

Greene is one of only two guys wearing ties in a 1979 staff photo that was enlarged and mounted on an easel at the reunion.

    ...
Greene is retired but remains on the board of Amylin Pharmaceuticals, which he founded.
    ...

"For a company that hasn't existed for 20 years, that's something pretty powerful," he said.
