On the heels of Super Tuesday, Lowell Greenbaum, Democratic chairperson for Richmond County, gave college students a crash course on the all-important delegates that are now at stake.

News 12 caught up with Greenbaum earlier in the day for a one on one lesson of our own on what happens next after a record Super Tuesday.

"In my lifetime I never saw anything like this.It was like having an election in November," said Greenbaum.
    ...
It's taken me several months to figure it out myself," said Greenbaum.

    So here's the breakdown.
    ...
"Also, in a convention, if you're deadlocked on the first ballot, that's it," Greenbaum said."People [delegates] who have been committed are free to vote for anybody they want."

"I think it's up in the air," he went on.

That might have something to do with the lack of complaints, said Richmond County Democratic Party Chairman Lowell Greenbaum.

Voter turnout is typically lower in primaries and special elections than in general elections. In the 2002 governor's election, turnout in Richmond County was just under 60 percent.

The number of voters without proper ID might be few in the July 18 primary, but Dr. Greenbaum expects that to change in November.

Dr. Greenbaum said Democrats have opposed the voter ID law from the beginning because the overall effect would be a reduction in the number of people participating in elections.

"We consider this an affront to our voters. We know the elderly and the poor will be hurt by this," Dr. Greenbaum said.
