Craven Democrats will hold their annual convention at the Craven County Courthouse at 10 a.m. April 19, said Kelly Green, Craven County chairman.

I attended the 1 February 2006 meeting, and I should have known that something was afoot as evidenced by the presence of Kelly Green, Chairman of the Craven County Democrat Party.

Bowles was introduced by his wife, Crandall Bowles, after remarks by Craven County Democratic Party Chairman Kelly Green, who urged those attending not to be complacent about the election despite the fact that Bowles is ahead in the polls.

Kelly Green, chairman of the Craven County Democratic Party, said he has read Michalek's complaint, but he does not believe it has any merit.

"We feel confident in the board of elections," he said.

"We feel if the voters get to know the candidates, they'll vote Democratic," said Craven County Democratic Party Chairman Kelly Green.

Green concedes that the races are going to be tough.

"That's whey we're pushing the get out the vote effort," Green said."We were going door-to-door the last two weekends to see if those folks could answer questions voters had, or to find out whether or not we could put a sign in their yard."

He said workers at the local Democrats' Glenburnie Road headquarters have made more than 8,000 phone calls, are doing a voter canvas, are sending out mailers on a regular basis and are bringing in statewide candidates to talk with local voters.

"These are all statewide elections so I'm impressed with the fact that Craven County has been able to draw these people," Green said.
