Lisa Greb, Jo-Ann Stores' public relations director, said the chain's business thrives on shopping center traffic and stores are generally placed in strip shopping centers or "big box" shopping centers.
Greb said the Richland store's sales were lagging, likely due to lower traffic in the area.
"A decline in the popularity of shopping center shopping among our target customers could have a material adverse effect on customer traffic and reduce our sales and net earnings," Greb said.
Greb said the company is remodeling its Kennewick store, which will remain open, and adding more products at the location.
Greb could not say when the Richland store, which has about 20 employees, would be closed for good.
"It depends on the liquidation," she said.
