Lisa Greb, Jo-Ann Stores' public relations director, said the chain's business thrives on shopping center traffic and stores are generally placed in strip shopping centers or "big box" shopping centers. Greb said the Richland store's sales were lagging, likely due to lower traffic in the area. "A decline in the popularity of shopping center shopping among our target customers could have a material adverse effect on customer traffic and reduce our sales and net earnings," Greb said. Greb said the company is remodeling its Kennewick store, which will remain open, and adding more products at the location. Greb could not say when the Richland store, which has about 20 employees, would be closed for good. "It depends on the liquidation," she said.

Jo-Ann Stores Inc. is asking customers who purchased a SmartSpace Papasan Chair to e-mail the store at guest.services@joann.com to receive a warning label tag, instructing consumers to engage the legs in the locked position before use, said Jo-Ann Public Relations Director Lisa Greb.

Jo-Ann has received five reports of chairs collapsing when the legs were not locked, Greb said. No injuries have been reported.

Jo-Ann Stores is not recalling any of the 6,000 SmartSpace Papasan Chairs made in China, Greb said. The chairs were sold without a warning label instructing consumers to lock the chair's legs before sitting. Chairs not sold have had a label added.

"The chair is safe if the legs are locked in place," Greb said.

The chairs were sold between June and September for $25 at Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft stores.

Lisa Greb, director of public relations for Jo-Ann, could not say when the store will officially close. That, she said, will depend on how fast the merchandise sells.

Greb also wouldn't disclose specific reasons for the corporation closing its Bellevue store, but that a lot of factors played into the decision.

"We evaluate all of our stores," she said, adding there are 750 Jo-Ann locations across the country.
