Former Superior fire chief Stephen A. Gotelaere, 61, was also ordered in Douglas County Circuit Court Monday to pay $239,676 restitution with his co-conspirator, Roger L. Otto, 56, of Chetek.

Gotelaere was convicted of two counts of felony theft and one count of felony misconduct in public office.Judge Michael T. Lucci ordered Gotelaere to serve concurrently 2 years in prison on each count.

Following his prison term, Gotelaere must spend 6 years on extended supervision.
In an earlier plea agreement, the state recommended that Gotelaere serve 4 years in prison followed by 5 years of extended supervision and an additional 5 years on probation.
A second count of misconduct in public office related to a false travel voucher and false mileage reimbursement claims submitted by Gotelaere while he was fire chief were read in at sentencing.
In 1999 until May 2005, Otto, who owned a fire equipment firm, Eddy Brothers Co., conspired with Gotelaere to submit invoices listing charges for equipment and supplies that were never ordered or delivered, stated a news release issued by Attorney General J. B. Van Hollen.
