That evening, Liliana Gorini, vice chairwoman of the Italian Movimento Solidarietà and translator of the book, gave a short press conference to present the book, beginning with a brief message from Amelia Robinson.
    ...
Gorini summarized Robinson's biography, and its importance, particularly today, when President Bush is trying to dismantle the Social Security system created by Roosevelt, and referenced in “Bridge Across Jordan” as the only help for African-Americans after the Depression. She read two pages about the famous march on the Edmund Pettus Bridge, when Amelia understood the deep meaning of “Oh freedom over me, and before I'll be a slave I'll be buried in my grave, and go home to my Lord and be free.”

To make the point clear to the audience, Gorini and Spannaus joined in singing “Oh freedom!” which was welcome by a warm applause, and said that today this has become the freedom song of the LaRouche Youth Movement, which working with Amelia to revive Roosevelt's tradition and stop Bush's effort for vote suppression and war.
    ...
Some questions were asked about other writings by the civil rights leader; Gorini told them about Robinson's play “Through the Years,” which tells the story of how the Negro Spiritual was born. Gorini also reported on the many newspaper interviews she granted while in Italy.

At the end of the presentation, five people bought Robison's book and left their names to stay in touch with the Movimento Solidarietà, including a young man who was the organizer of the book fair, and stayed some time discussing with Spannaus and Gorini the role played by the LaRouche Youth Movement to transform politics and the Democratic Party in the U.S.

There is a deliciously ironical aspect to EIR's receipt of the accompanying report by our Italian correspondent, Liliana Gorini.Since it was her ancestor who, quite literally, buried Guiseppe Mazzini, there is a certain exquisitely ironical appropriateness in her informing our English-speaking audience of the Vatican's release, by the Holy See's Press Office, of the 500-page "Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church."
