The variance allows distributors to sell unblended fuel for 10 days, said Bruce Gordon, communication director of the Minnesota Department of Commerce.
"There were quality problems at the terminal with the biodiesel supplies," Gordon said."The biodiesel fuel did not meet specifications that were set out in law, so the department issued the variance to prevent any sort of supply problem in Minnesota."
Biodiesel quality is being tested at an independent lab, Gordon said.
"These things happen, but the system worked," Gordon said.
