  The decision to close the Sanford plant was part of the Whatman plan before GE Healthcare acquired the company in April, said GE spokesman Arvind Gopalratnam.
  
  Some employees may be offered a transfer to another GE Healthcare site as various activities of the Sanford plant move to other locations.
  
  Some activities will move to a site in Westborough, Mass.Some will move overseas.
  
  GE will offer outplacement support to all affected employees, said Gopalratnam.
  
  Two plants in the United Kingdom are being affected by the restructuring, according to an e-mail from Gopalratnam.

  The new facility will be built as a replacement for the 10 buildings, totaling 375,000 square feet, that GE Healthcare currently leases at the Ace Industrial Park in Cudahy.
  
  No jobs will be lost as a result of the shifting of work to Muskego, Gopalratnam said.Some jobs could be added once the move is completed, he said.
  
  GE didn't reveal the planned cost of the facility, but Gopalratnam said GE Healthcare expects to seek some financing from the city of Muskego for infrastructure improvements.
