Nancy Goorey, DDS, of Worthington, is the recipient of the Ohio Dental Association's 2002 Achievement Award.Goorey will receive the award on September 13 at the Callahan Celebration of Excellence.Her career in dentistry began in 1956, and she has long been a presence in the profession.

"In the 19 years since her recognition by the ODA, Dr. Goorey has contributed more to our profession and the good of the public than many dental leaders do in a lifetime," said Jackson E. Winters, DDS, chairman of the Consultants on Sports Dentistry and Bruce D. Grbach, DDS, chairman of the ODA's Council on Communication & Public Service in their joint nomination for the award.

Goorey has poured much of her energy into programs that protect and educate young people.She was instrumental in developing the ODA's Operation T.A.C.T.I.C. (Teens Against Chewing Tobacco In the Community)program; was the ODA's long-time chief consultant on sports dentistry, and remains active in smokeless tobacco issues.
"The children are our future.Children can't learn if they're not healthy," Goorey said.

Past President of the Columbus Dental SocietyIn April 2000, Goorey was one of eight women inducted into the YWCA of Central Ohio's Women of Achievement Academy.She was honored with the Leadership for a Lifetime Award from Leadership Worthington in 1997.The Columbus Department of Health, Health Check Program established the "Nancy Goorey Volunteer of the Year" award in her honor in 1988.Goorey is a fellow of the American Dental Society of Dental Anesthesiology, The American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
The 2002 Achievement Award will be presented Friday, Sept. 13 during the ODA's Callahan Celebration of Excellence starting at 8 a.m. in the Greater Columbus Convention Center.
