In early February, in a move aimed at stifling dissent and intimidating known dissidents, a large number of summons, were simultaneously issued to the following individuals: Ali Dehbashi (Editor of Bokhara Journal), Hooshang Golmakani (Chief Editor of Film Monthly), Bahram Bayzaei (Filmmaker), Firouz Gooran (Managing Editor of Jameah Salem, a banned publication), Sakineh Haidari (Managing Editor of Takapoo, a banned publication), and Nasser Zarafshan (Lawyer).
Suppression and Arrests of Tens of Protesting Teachers:Â Â An unknown number of teachers, who were among thousands who peacefully demonstrated for better wages and working conditions in January 2002 in several cities of Iran, including Tehran and Isfahan, have been reportedly arrested and imprisoned.Â
Never Ending Execution of Prisoners of Conscience by the Islamic Republic: Karim Toujeli, a 33 year old Kurdish activist and prisoner, was executed in Mahabad prison, where he had been imprisoned for three and half years. In a letter distributed via the Internet by his friends, they write of the tortures, including the breaking of his hands, that were inflicted upon him by the regime†s agents after his deportation to Iran by the Turkish authorities in 1998. In their letter, his friends list the names of a number of other Kurdish activist prisoners who may be in danger of execution: Hamzeh Ghaderi (31 years old), Khald (50 years old), Jalal Zivehei (27 years old), Hassan Mahmoudi (27 years old), Mohammad Esmaili (35 years old), Zahed Mostafavi (33 years old), and Jamal Ghorashi (30 years old).

But Mr. Gooran and some others who asked not to be named confirmed that once at the OPP, they would be conducted in a basement where people who "were obviously very well informed" interrogated them.
With one exception or two, they also confirmed that the interrogators were using a deliberate insulting and humiliating words, ordering them to stop their activities, including talking to foreign radio stations or writing in newspapers.
"They also wanted to now how much Mr. Poorzand had paid me", Mr. Gooran added, confirming what Mrs. Mahin Poorzand had said about the authorities charging his brother for having received 4 billions US Dollars.
