Corey Gonzalez, a cornerback for the Port Huron Pirates professional indoor football team and a former Saginaw Valley State University player, was named the Defensive Player of the Week for the Continental Indoor Football League for his play June 16 against the Chicago Slaughter.
Gonzalez, 23, a Saginaw native (6-2, 180), intercepted three passes, returning two for touchdowns, in the Pirates' 46-12 victory at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Ill.He also had six tackles, one for a loss, and a pass broken up.This is second year as a starter for the Pirates.He was part of the 2006 team that went 12-0 and won the Great Lakes Bowl I at Port Huron's McMorran Arena.
