The high school softball season in Fairbanks will get under way on Wednesday evening, but the baseball and soccer seasons are still on hold, Fairbanks North Star Borough School District activities coordinator Conrad Gonzalez announced on Monday.

"After consultation with activities coordinators and personnel from the Borough Parks and Recreation Department, as well as personal observations of field conditions at Lathrop, West Valley, Newby and Eielson, there will be no baseball or soccer played on local fields this week," Gonzalez wrote in an e-mail Monday afternoon.
Baseball games scheduled for this weekend in Delta are still on the docket.North Pole is scheduled to play a single game at Delta on Friday and Lathrop is scheduled to play a doubleheader at Delta on Saturday.
The track meet scheduled for Friday and Saturday will be held as scheduled.
Gonzalez said that schedules for the softball, baseball and soccer seasons will be one of the topics of discussion during a Region VI meeting scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the school district board room.
