After Kodiak finally arrived at South Davis, Conrad Gonzalez, the activities coordinator for the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District, asked the umpires to give the Bears 30 minutes for warm-up.

After meeting with the activities directors from Region VI schools on Wednesday, Fairbanks North Star Borough School District activities coordinator Conrad Gonzalez announced revised schedules for baseball, softball and soccer.

"After consultation with activities coordinators and personnel from the Borough Parks and Recreation Department, as well as personal observations of field conditions at Lathrop, West Valley, Newby and Eielson, there will be no baseball or soccer played on local fields this week," Gonzalez wrote in an e-mail Monday afternoon.

Baseball games scheduled for this weekend in Delta are still on the docket.North Pole is scheduled to play a single game at Delta on Friday and Lathrop is scheduled to play a doubleheader at Delta on Saturday.

The track meet scheduled for Friday and Saturday will be held as scheduled.

Gonzalez said that schedules for the softball, baseball and soccer seasons will be one of the topics of discussion during a Region VI meeting scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the school district board room.

"Based upon personal observations of snow cover, long range weather forecasts and the vagaries of Alaskan weather, I am canceling all baseball, softball and soccer games for the week of April 17 through April 22," Conrad Gonzalez, activities coordinator for the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District, said in an E-mail that was sent out on Friday.

Gonzalez said that the track meet scheduled for April 21 and 22 at Lathrop will be held as scheduled.

Gonzalez said that softball games scheduled between Lathrop and Palmer and Wasilla will have to be made up when the Malemutes travel to the Matanuska-Susitna Valley later in the season.Games between Palmer and Wasilla that were scheduled against local Class 3A schools have been canceled.

Soccer games will be rescheduled for later in the season.
