The Clark County Highway Department pretreated hills, curves and intersections with a beet juice extract along with salt and cinders to ease any needed ice and snow removal, said the department's assistant director, Bob Goforth.

The snow and ice "kind of caught us by surprise this time," said Bob Goforth, assistant director of the Clark County Road Department."We didn't get anybody out until 7 o'clock this morning," when police called him to say they were having trouble getting around, he said.

Goforth and Jeffersonville street director Ron Ellis said they had been lulled by weather reports Friday that said the snow wouldn't hit the area.

Goforth, and Jeffersonville street director Ron Ellis said they had been lulled by last night's weather reports that said the snow wouldn't hit in the area.

"Damage was scattered pretty well all over the county," said Bob Goforth, assistant director of the Clark County Highway Department."It is still not all cleaned up.We've had to go back to our paving work and get back to clean up as time and weather permits."

Goforth estimates that practically the entire highway department roster of 26 employees worked around the clock to put things right.

"We had just about everybody out for several days working strictly on the storm's damage," Goforth said.

"We'll usually wait a few days after the election to give candidates time to collect them," said Bob Goforth, assistant director of the county's highway department.
