A.J. Goforth III, MD

Undergraduate School.Dr. Goforth graduated from Furman University in Greenville, SC with a BS degree in Biology and also had a fairly extensive chemistry background.

Medical School.Dr. Goforth completed medical school at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina.He graduated in 1980.

Internship/Residency.Dr. Goforth completed his internship and residency at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina.He completed a general surgery internship with rotations in general surgery, neurosurgery, ENT, urology, cardiothoracic surgery, and plastic surgery.He competed an additional 4 years of residency in ENT.He was the chief resident in his final two years of his training.He was Board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.

Training in Sinus Surgery.Dr. Goforth has extensive training in sinus surgery while in his residency at Medical University of South Carolina.Endoscopic sinus surgery was developed subsequent to completion of his residency.He began performing endoscopic sinus surgery in 1986 after receiving training from Dr David Kennedy who is now at the University of Pennsylvania.Since 1986, he has performed over 1800 endoscopic sinus cases.He now also performs 3 dimensional image guided sinus surgery for select sinus cases.

Focus in Sinus Care.Dr. Goforth has performed functional endoscopic sinus surgery since 1986.In the years of performing sinus surgery he has refined his technique.The goal of sinus surgery is to perform the least amount of surgery to achieve the most benefit.The Minimally Invasive Sinus Surgery is a procedure which fulfills this goal.He also performs surgery to release contact points which are pressure points between the turbinates and septum that can be a significant source of headaches.

Societies& Associations.Dr Goforth is a fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.He also is a member of the American Medical Association, the South Carolina Medical Association, the Greenville County Medical Society, the Pediatric Association of Otolaryngology.Dr Goforth was listed in Greenville Magazine as Greenville's Top Doctors in ENT in 1999.He also is listed in Who's Who in America.

Board Certification.Dr. Goforth is Board Certified with the American Board of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery.
